What is a yuzamashi, and why do I need one?
A yuzamashi is a traditional Japanese water cooler used to lower the temperature of boiling water before brewing delicate teas like gyokuro or sencha. Using one helps prevent bitterness and ensures optimal flavor extraction—especially important for premium Japanese teas that require water between 60–80°C (140–176°F).

Is it safe to pour boiling water directly into it?
Yes. This yuzamashi is crafted from heat-resistant Banko-yaki ceramic, which can safely withstand boiling water. Its thick walls allow water to cool naturally without damaging the vessel.

Can I use it for other types of tea or beverages?
Absolutely. While designed for Japanese green tea, it can be used to prepare any tea that requires controlled water temperature, including oolong, white tea, or pour-over coffee.

Is it dishwasher or microwave safe?
We recommend hand-washing only to preserve the natural ceramic finish. It is not microwave safe, as the unglazed clay may retain moisture and heat unevenly.
